Description
When someone is sending an email to a GreyMail client, the sender is receiving the bounce back message “554 Denied.“
Cause
The error message “554 Denied” means that we have rejected the message as spam. This is either due to the content of the message or the reputation of the sending IP address.
Example Error(s)
host domain.com.inbound15.gsiresource.net[111.111.111.111] said: 554 Denied (Mode:normal) (in reply to end of DATA command)
The error that the other server returned was: 554 Content filter will not allow this message (Mode: normal)
Resolution
The sender may have a compromised account and their domain has been blacklisted on national blacklist servers. GreySignal is unable to accept messages from servers on such systems. Please instruct the sender to contact their IT department for analysis.
If there is no issue on the sending parties systems, the recipient (GreyMail client) should forward the error to false@gsiresource.com for analysis. Please include the following information with the forwarded message:
1. Email address of sender
2. Email address of intended recipient
3. Date of message (within past 7 days)
4. Exact bounce message received
5. Subject of message (If available)
